My Style
Q: Why do you believe wedding photography is an investment, not an expense?
Allen:Because its value grows with time.
Great photographs are like fine wine — their value is not measured on the day they are created, but in the years that follow.
Q:Do you still look back at the weddings you’ve photographed?
Allen:Absolutely. Very often.
Especially in recent years. Every time I look back at some of my favourite photographs, they bring me so much joy.
It’s also one of the reasons why, after 18 years as a wedding photographer, I still love what I do.
Q: What do you think is the most important aspect of a wedding album?
Allen:The story.
After designing hundreds of wedding albums, I’ve found that many albums focus on portraits and family photographs, but miss the story that connects them all.
Because a wedding album shouldn’t just show who was there. It should tell the story of why the day mattered.
To me, light, composition, and technical skill are simply tools. Their purpose is to help tell a story in the most meaningful and beautiful way possible.
Q: How would you describe your work in three words?
Allen:Refined. Timeless. Story-Driven.
Q:What is your role on a wedding day?
Allen:First and foremost, I am a storyteller.
My role is to observe, anticipate, and preserve the moments that matter. Along the way, I am a director when a little direction can help create something beautiful.
Q: What would you do if a couple feels nervous on their wedding day?
That’s completely normal, especially before the ceremony.
I rarely ask couples to relax, because it doesn’t help — and those emotions are often part of the story.
Instead, I focus on creating a comfortable environment and giving them something meaningful to focus on.
Once the ceremony begins the nerves usually fade away naturally。
Q: Will bad weather or poor lighting ruin our wedding photos?
Allen:It can certainly make photography more challenging.
But in my experience, the bigger risk isn’t the weather or the light — it’s letting them affect how you feel about your wedding day.
An open mind and a positive attitude are just as important as sunshine.
As photographers, we always have a backup plan. We carry professional lighting equipment, know how to work in difficult conditions, and can adapt locations when needed. In fact, some of my favourite photographs were created in low light.
Q: What do you hope couples remember about you after the wedding?
Allen:Passionate. Professional. Creative.
But above all, I believe my role is to serve.
I simply want to give my best at every wedding and create photographs that continue to bring joy each time my couples revisit them.
